Bomb threat emails in Ahmedabad, Noida schools

Threat emails trigger security checks; no explosives found, investigation underway

Several schools in Ahmedabad and Noida were put on high alert on Friday, January 23, after they received bomb threat emails, prompting immediate evacuation and large-scale security checks. The incidents occurred just days before Republic Day, leading authorities to treat the threats with heightened seriousness.

In Noida, prominent schools, including Shiv Nadar School, Cambridge School, and Army Public School reported receiving threatening emails in the morning. As a precaution, school managements informed parents, evacuated students and staff, and suspended classes for the day. Police teams, bomb disposal squads, dog squads, and fire tenders were rushed to the campuses to conduct thorough searches. Officials said no suspicious items or explosives were found during the checks.

Similar alerts were reported from Ahmedabad, where multiple private schools, including well-known institutions, received bomb threat emails. Following standard safety protocols, school authorities immediately contacted the police. Teams from the crime branch, bomb detection and disposal squad, forensic units, and fire services carried out detailed inspections of the school premises. Students were sent home safely, and parents were asked to cooperate with security agencies.

Police officials in both cities said the threats appeared to be hoaxes, but stressed that no risk would be taken, especially with national celebrations approaching. Cybercrime teams have been roped in to trace the origin of the emails and identify those responsible. Investigators are examining email headers and digital footprints to determine whether the threats were coordinated.

The incidents caused anxiety among parents, many of whom rushed to schools after receiving messages from school authorities. Police personnel were deployed to manage crowds and ensure smooth evacuation. Authorities also urged people not to panic or circulate rumours on social media, warning that spreading unverified information could create unnecessary fear.

So far, there have been no reports of injuries or damage, and normalcy is expected to return once investigations are completed. Security has been tightened around educational institutions and other sensitive locations in view of Republic Day on January 26.

Musk predicts work as optional in future

AI and robots could do most work, leaving people free to work by choice, not need

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has said that people may not need to work for a living in the next 10 to 20 years, as artificial intelligence (AI) and robots become powerful enough to do most jobs currently done by humans.

According to Musk, rapid progress in AI and robotics will change the way the world produces goods and services. Machines will be able to perform both physical and mental tasks better and faster than humans. As a result, work may no longer be necessary for survival and could instead become a matter of personal choice.

Musk explained that in the future, people might work only if they enjoy it or find meaning in it. He compared work to hobbies such as playing sports, gardening, or gaming—activities people do for pleasure, not because they have to earn money. “Work will be optional,” he said, adding that jobs could become something people choose to do for satisfaction rather than income.

Musk has also suggested that traditional ideas about money may change. If machines produce almost everything, people may not need regular jobs to meet their basic needs. He has previously spoken about the idea of a “universal high income,” where everyone receives enough support to live comfortably, even without working.

A key part of Musk’s vision is the use of advanced robots, including Tesla’s humanoid robot Optimus. These robots, combined with smart AI systems, could handle manufacturing, services, transportation, and many other tasks. This, he believes, would lead to a world of abundance, where goods and services are easily available and cheap to produce.

India reviews joining Trump’s Gaza peace board

Invitation under review as Israel, UAE and other nations agree to be part of new international body

India is examining an invitation to join a proposed international peace body for Gaza, informally referred to as the “Board of Peace,” an initiative put forward by former United States President Donald Trump. The government has not taken a final call and is assessing the diplomatic and strategic implications before responding.

The proposed board is intended to support the next phase of the ceasefire process in Gaza and help coordinate reconstruction efforts after prolonged conflict between Israel and Hamas. According to officials, the body would bring together global leaders and key regional players to oversee stability measures, governance arrangements and humanitarian rebuilding in the Gaza Strip.

The invitation to India comes amid growing international participation. Israel and the United Arab Emirates have confirmed their willingness to join the proposed board, signalling early support from both a direct party to the conflict and a key regional stakeholder. Their decision is being viewed as a significant step in lending political weight to the initiative.

In addition to Israel and the UAE, several countries from West Asia and the wider Islamic world are understood to have expressed readiness to participate. These nations see the board as a platform to push for a sustained ceasefire, humanitarian access, and long-term political solutions for Gaza, which has suffered extensive damage to civilian infrastructure.

Indian officials indicated that discussions are ongoing and that New Delhi is weighing how the proposed mechanism aligns with its long-standing position on West Asia, which emphasises dialogue, restraint, and a two-state solution. India has traditionally supported diplomatic efforts through multilateral institutions and has provided humanitarian assistance to Gaza while maintaining relations with Israel.

There are also broader questions being debated internationally about the role and authority of the proposed board, particularly how it would function alongside existing United Nations frameworks and whether it could deliver tangible outcomes on the ground.

3 killed in Nandyal bus–truck crash, Andhra

Tyre burst triggers early-morning fire on highway

At least three people were killed and several others injured after a private passenger bus collided head-on with a container truck and caught fire in Andhra Pradesh’s Nandyal district in the early hours of Thursday.

The accident took place between 1 am and 2 am near Shirivellametta village in Shirivella mandal. According to police, the private bus was travelling from Nellore to Hyderabad when its front right tyre burst. The sudden tyre failure caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, cross the road divider and ram into an oncoming container truck.

The impact of the collision triggered a massive fire, quickly engulfing both vehicles. Due to the intensity of the flames, three people — the bus driver, the truck driver and the truck’s cleaner — were charred to death. Their bodies were later recovered from the burnt remains of the vehicles and shifted to a government hospital for post-mortem examinations.

At the time of the crash, the bus was carrying around 36 passengers. Panic broke out as the fire spread rapidly. Passengers initially struggled to escape as the bus doors and emergency exits reportedly did not open. Several people were forced to break windows or jump out to save themselves.

A driver of a passing DCM vehicle stopped after noticing the blaze and helped rescue passengers by breaking the bus windows. His timely intervention, along with assistance from locals, is believed to have prevented a higher death toll. Videos of the rescue efforts later surfaced on social media.

More than ten passengers suffered burn injuries, while others sustained injuries while escaping from the bus. The injured were rushed to the Government General Hospital in Nandyal, where doctors said most were in stable condition. A few passengers reportedly suffered fractures but were out of danger.

Police and fire services reached the spot soon after the incident and worked for several hours to douse the flames and remove the burnt vehicles. Traffic on the highway was affected for a considerable time before normal movement was restored.

ICMR plans single test for multiple infections

New test aims to cut delays, speed treatment, and reduce antibiotic misuse

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is working on a breakthrough diagnostic test that could make life easier for patients and doctors alike. The goal is a single test that can detect multiple infections at once, rather than having to run separate tests for each illness.

Today, patients with common symptoms like fever, cough, or body aches often have to undergo several different lab tests to find out what’s wrong. Diseases such as dengue, influenza, COVID‑19, and typhoid can look very similar in the early stages, which means doctors often have to wait for one test result before ordering another. This can slow down treatment and leave patients in uncertainty, sometimes even leading to unnecessary use of antibiotics.

The new test, which uses advanced molecular techniques, would allow doctors to screen for several key infections in a single run. This could dramatically shorten the time it takes to confirm what’s causing a patient’s illness. Faster diagnosis means the right treatment can start sooner, improving recovery chances and reducing the need for broad‑spectrum antibiotics.

Experts say this is particularly important in India, where the overuse of antibiotics has contributed to growing concerns about antimicrobial resistance. By pinpointing the exact infection quickly, doctors can avoid guesswork and help curb the rise of resistant bacteria.

ICMR is also encouraging Indian manufacturers and research institutions to get involved in developing, testing, and scaling up the production of these kits. The plan is to make them widely available during outbreaks and future health emergencies, drawing on lessons from the COVID‑19 pandemic.

If successful, this initiative could be a game-changer for India’s healthcare system. It promises not only faster, more accurate diagnoses for patients but also smarter use of medicines and better support for public health efforts.

Andhra CM pitches global projects at Davos

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu courts Israel, UAE investors; sets steel project deadline

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has stepped up efforts to attract global investment, using the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos as a platform to pitch large industrial and infrastructure projects while setting clear timelines for key developments back home.

During meetings with international leaders and investors, Naidu proposed the creation of an Israel-focused industrial park in Andhra Pradesh. The proposed park is expected to attract Israeli companies working in areas such as medical technology, defence manufacturing, aerospace, clean energy and advanced electronics. The initiative is aimed at combining Israeli innovation with Andhra Pradesh’s growing industrial ecosystem, skilled workforce and port-led connectivity.

Naidu also held discussions with representatives from the United Arab Emirates on strengthening cooperation in food processing and logistics. A major proposal includes linking Andhra Pradesh with the Dubai Food Cluster to improve food value chains, boost exports and attract investment into cold storage, processing units and agri-infrastructure. Officials said such partnerships could help the state emerge as a food processing hub serving global markets.

Alongside international outreach, the Chief Minister focused on fast-tracking major domestic investments. He announced a February 15 deadline for completing all approvals required for the ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel project in Anakapalli district. The state government has been directed to expedite land acquisition, environmental clearances and related permissions so that groundwork for the steel plant can begin without further delay. The project is seen as a cornerstone of Andhra Pradesh’s industrial revival, with significant potential for employment generation and downstream industries.

Naidu said Davos offered an opportunity not only to attract capital but also to build long-term strategic partnerships in technology, manufacturing and sustainability. He emphasised that Andhra Pradesh is committed to policy stability, ease of doing business and time-bound execution of projects.

Trump optimistic on India‑US trade deal

At Davos, he praises PM Modi and expects a positive agreement soon

At the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos on January 21, 2026, US President Donald Trump expressed optimism about a prospective India‑US trade agreement, calling it a “good deal in the making.” Speaking to Indian media, Trump also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “fantastic man” and a “friend,” highlighting the strong personal rapport between the two leaders.

The remarks come amid ongoing discussions between Washington and New Delhi aimed at finalising a bilateral trade agreement (BTA). The agreement seeks to deepen economic ties, boost trade, and address key issues such as tariffs, market access, and industrial and energy cooperation. Both countries have ambitious goals: to expand bilateral trade from the current USD 191 billion to nearly USD 500 billion by 2030.

Recent years have seen challenges in India‑US trade relations, including high tariffs imposed on Indian imports, which had slowed progress in negotiations. However, Trump’s positive statements at Davos signal renewed momentum and a willingness on both sides to reach a balanced deal.

Indian officials, including Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, have indicated that a first tranche of the agreement is “very near,” though no official timeline has been confirmed. Several rounds of talks have taken place, with both governments working to reconcile differences in sensitive sectors such as agriculture, energy, and manufacturing.

While optimism is high, key hurdles remain. Achieving concessions that satisfy both economies will be critical for the deal to materialise. Trump’s public praise of PM Modi may also help smooth diplomatic relations and foster greater trust ahead of finalising negotiations.

Greenland issues crisis guide as tensions loom

Greenland asks residents to stay prepared and self-sufficient amid rising global attention

Greenland’s government has issued a new safety and preparedness guide for its people, asking them to be ready to manage on their own for a few days during any crisis. The  decision comes at a time when global attention is once again on the Arctic island, following renewed statements by US President Donald Trump about his interest in Greenland.

The guide, released in Nuuk, is simple and practical. It advises households to keep enough food, drinking water and daily essentials to last at least five days. People are also encouraged to have basic items such as torches, batteries, radios and first-aid supplies. In remote areas, where hunting and fishing are common ways of life, the guide also mentions tools that help families remain self-sufficient.

Officials stressed that the advisory is not linked to any immediate threat. Greenland’s Self-Rule government said the document is meant to help citizens stay calm and prepared during emergencies such as extreme weather, power cuts or supply disruptions. Similar guidelines are common in Nordic countries, where harsh climates can quickly create difficult living conditions.

However, the timing of the announcement has drawn attention because it coincides with Trump’s repeated comments about acquiring Greenland. Speaking recently at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Trump said the US should begin talks on Greenland’s future, while also stating that he would not use military force.

Greenland’s leaders have played down fears of conflict. Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen said a military threat was unlikely but added that being prepared is always wise. Denmark, which oversees Greenland’s foreign and defence policy, has firmly stated that the island is not for sale.
