The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has removed Raghav Chadha from his role as the party’s deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, signalling a notable change in its parliamentary lineup.
The party has replaced him with Ashok Mittal and has officially communicated the decision to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat. The change has already been updated in parliamentary records.
In a further step, AAP has also requested that Chadha not be given speaking time in the House. While he continues to remain a Member of Parliament, this move effectively reduces his active role in parliamentary debates.
The party has not issued any detailed explanation for the decision. However, the development has drawn attention as Chadha has been one of AAP’s more visible and vocal leaders in the past, often representing the party on national platforms.
He is considered a close associate of Arvind Kejriwal and played an important role in shaping the party’s public messaging, especially in Parliament. His recent low profile and absence from key discussions had already led to speculation about his position within the party.
While there is no official confirmation, political observers believe the move could be part of an internal reshuffle or a shift in strategy as AAP looks to strengthen its presence in the Rajya Sabha.
Meanwhile, Ashok Mittal, who represents Punjab in the Upper House, is expected to take on a more active role in leading the party’s parliamentary interventions. His appointment suggests that the party may be focusing on reorganising responsibilities among its MPs.
The decision has sparked political reactions, with some viewing it as a routine leadership change and others seeing it as a sign of changing dynamics within AAP.
