Ahmedabad’s GIFT City, the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City, is quietly becoming one of India’s most ambitious smart-city projects. With total assets under management crossing $100 billion, the city is evolving into a vibrant urban centre. The recent bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games has added fresh momentum, putting GIFT City on the fast track for growth and development.
The city’s International Financial Services Centre Authority (IFSCA) now regulates over 1,034 companies, including 38 banks, spanning banking, insurance, fund management, fintech, and other sectors. This expanding ecosystem is drawing more investors, firms, and professionals, creating a lively mix of business and opportunity.
GIFT City’s development is moving beyond offices. About 930 homes are ready, and 7,000 more are under construction. The city’s masterplan allows for 62 million sq ft of built-up space, with nearly half already allotted. Experts predict that almost 50% of the total area will be ready within 2–3 years, making it a destination where people can live, work, and relax.
The city is designed with modern living in mind. Underground tunnels carry utilities like water, power, and telecom, keeping the surface “dig-free.” Residents can look forward to a 27-acre central park, riverfront spaces, jogging and cycling tracks, sports courts, plazas, and shopping and dining zones, turning GIFT City into more than just a place to work.
The CWG 2030 bid has accelerated these plans, while improved connectivity via metro, airport roads, and high-speed rail is on the horizon. With these developments, GIFT City is shaping up as a self-contained smart township, blending finance, lifestyle, and technology, and offering a glimpse of India’s urban future.
