Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has made it easier for millions of Indians to stay connected, no matter where they are. From January 1, 2026, the state-owned telecom operator has launched its Voice over Wi‑Fi (VoWiFi) service—also known as Wi‑Fi Calling—across the country for all subscribers.
VoWiFi allows users to make and receive calls and text messages using a Wi‑Fi connection instead of relying solely on mobile networks. This is especially useful in places where cellular signals are weak, like basements, offices, homes, or rural and remote areas. By using any stable internet connection, including BSNL’s own Bharat Fiber, customers can now enjoy seamless communication without worrying about dropped calls.
The service runs on an advanced IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) platform, which lets calls automatically switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile networks without interruptions. Subscribers can make calls using their regular phone dialer—no extra apps needed. Most modern smartphones already support Wi‑Fi calling, and users simply need to activate the option in their phone settings.
BSNL is offering this service at no additional cost. Calls made over Wi‑Fi are billed under the existing voice plan, meaning users get better connectivity without paying extra. The rollout comes as part of BSNL’s push to modernize its network, improve service quality, and reduce congestion, especially in areas where mobile coverage is limited.
With this nationwide launch, BSNL joins private operators like Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea that already provide Wi‑Fi calling. For customers, the service promises clearer calls, uninterrupted messaging, and a more reliable connection, bridging the gaps in coverage and making communication smoother than ever.
BSNL’s VoWiFi initiative aims at keeping people connected, whether at home, work, or in hard-to-reach areas, ensuring no call or message is ever missed.
