‘Drishyam 3’ faces digital rights dispute

Prime Video claims exclusive rights, warns of legal action

The much-awaited Malayalam film ‘Drishyam 3’, starring Mohanlal, has become the centre of a digital rights dispute ahead of its release. The issue involves streaming platform Amazon Prime Video, which has claimed exclusive rights to the film.

In a public notice, Prime Video stated that it has a valid agreement with the film’s producer, Aashirvad Cinemas, giving it sole authority over the movie’s digital release. The platform warned that the rights cannot be sold or shared with any other streaming service. It also cautioned that any violation of this agreement could lead to legal action.

The dispute reportedly arose after concerns that the film’s digital rights might be offered to other platforms. Prime Video has made it clear that it alone has the right to stream the film after its theatrical release, creating uncertainty around its distribution plans.

Directed by Jeethu Joseph, Drishyam 3 is the third part of the widely popular thriller series. The earlier films were major successes and built a strong fan following, making the third instalment one of the most anticipated releases in Malayalam cinema.

The controversy has added confusion to the film’s release strategy, especially in the growing OTT market, where streaming rights play a crucial role in a movie’s success. With multiple platforms competing for high-profile content, such disputes have become more common in recent years.

So far, the producers have not issued a detailed public response to Prime Video’s claims. Industry experts say the situation could impact the film’s digital release timeline if the matter is not resolved soon.

Despite the dispute, interest in Drishyam 3 remains high among audiences, who are eager to see the continuation of the story.
