Five IITs Among QS Asia Rankings Top 100

IIT Delhi tops India for the fifth year in a row, securing 59th place in Asia

India has achieved a significant milestone in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026, with seven institutions entering the top 100, reflecting the country’s growing prominence in higher education. Leading the list are five Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in Delhi, Madras, Bombay, Kharagpur, and Kanpur, alongside the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, and the University of Delhi.

This recognition highlights strong academic performance, particularly in research output and faculty qualifications. Indian universities performed notably well in indicators such as “Papers per Faculty” and “Staff with PhD,” underscoring the emphasis on scholarly work and quality teaching. These achievements reflect the concerted efforts by institutions to strengthen research ecosystems and academic programs.

Experts note that while these rankings celebrate India’s achievements, they also point to areas for further improvement. Enhancing international collaboration, global student intake, and student-to-faculty ratios could help Indian universities climb even higher in future rankings.

For students and educators, the rankings offer reassurance that Indian institutions are competitive at a continental level. It is also a signal to prospective international students and faculty that India is a viable destination for quality higher education and research opportunities.

This accomplishment is expected to encourage more research initiatives, academic partnerships, and innovation, further boosting India’s position on the global education map. As the country continues to focus on developing world-class institutions, the top-ranking universities are likely to play a central role in shaping the next generation of leaders, scientists, and innovators.

With seven Indian institutions now among Asia’s top 100, the achievement is both a moment of pride and a step toward a stronger, more globally connected higher education system.
