Hoax bomb threat hits DRDO lab

Bengaluru facility evacuated after email warning and kidnapping claim

A bomb threat email sent to a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) facility in Bengaluru triggered panic and a swift security response on Monday. The situation was later declared safe, with officials confirming the threat was a hoax.

The email was received at the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), a key DRDO lab. It warned that explosive devices had been planted inside the ppremises, leading authorities to immediately evacuate staff and secure the area.

Police, bomb disposal squads, and fire personnel conducted a detailed search of the building. After several hours of checks, no explosives or suspicious items were found, and the alert was called off.

The email also included a disturbing claim about a possible kidnapping. It allegedly mentioned a threat targeting Inbanidhi Stalin, the grandson of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. This added seriousness to the situation and prompted closer attention from security agencies.

Officials said the message was written in Tamil and could be linked to similar hoax emails reported earlier. Cybercrime teams are now investigating the source of the email and trying to identify the person responsible.

As a precaution, security has been tightened at important installations across Bengaluru. Authorities have reassured the public that there is no immediate danger but stressed that such false threats can cause unnecessary panic and disrupt essential services.
