India has successfully repatriated 197 of its citizens from Thailand after they were detained for working illegally in a cyber‑scam hub near the Myanmar border. The operation was carried out via two special Indian Air Force flights.
The detainees had crossed into Thailand from Myawaddy in Myanmar and were found violating Thai immigration laws by staying in the country without permission. Thai authorities, with full cooperation from India, coordinated the repatriation.
Thai officials praised the Indian government for its prompt action. Both countries reiterated their commitment to fighting cross‑border crime, including cyber scams and human trafficking.
The Indian Embassy in Bangkok warned citizens that Thailand’s visa‑free scheme for Indians is intended only for tourism or short business visits, not employment. Citizens were also advised to verify overseas job offers and avoid suspicious recruitment agents.
This repatriation is part of ongoing regional efforts to crack down on cyber‑fraud operations along the Thailand–Myanmar border.
