Instagram brings in a new AI-driven feature called “Your Algorithm,” designed to give users more control over the content shown in their Reels feed. The tool analyses user activity to identify topics of interest and presents a personalised list, allowing users to add new interests, remove irrelevant ones, or adjust the prominence of each topic.
Accessing the feature is straightforward. Users can tap an icon in the top-right corner of the Reels tab to view their interest summary. From there, they can edit their preferences to make their feed more relevant. Some users also have the option to share their personalised interest list via Instagram Stories, providing insight into what drives their recommendations.
Meta, Instagram’s parent company, says the rollout is part of its broader initiative to increase transparency and give users more agency in algorithm-driven experiences. The feature is currently available in the United States, with plans to expand globally in English over the coming months. Instagram also intends to bring similar controls to other parts of the app, including the Explore tab, so users can influence recommendations beyond Reels.
From a technology perspective, the feature highlights how AI can be made more user-centric. By providing visibility into how the algorithm interprets user behaviour, Instagram enables users to interact with AI recommendations rather than passively consume them. Experts note that this trend reflects a larger shift in social media, where companies aim to balance algorithmic curation with user control.
“Your Algorithm” represents a step toward more transparent, personalised, and accountable AI-driven experiences, allowing users to better manage the content they see while benefiting from intelligent recommendations.
