A high-stakes inheritance dispute has erupted in the Kapur family over late industrialist Sunjay Kapur’s ₹30,000-crore estate. His children with actor Karisma Kapoor, Samaira and Kiaan Kapur, have moved the Delhi High Court alleging that their father’s will is forged and “fraught with inconsistencies.”
Represented by senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, the siblings claimed that the will disproportionately favored Sunjay’s widow, Priya Sachdev Kapur, granting her control over major family trusts and a bulk of his assets. They argued that grammatical flaws, misused pronouns, and factual discrepancies in the document cast serious doubt on its authenticity.
The petition also pointed to metadata evidence showing the will was drafted on an unidentified computer, along with WhatsApp chats that allegedly reveal Priya’s prior access to its contents. Describing her as an ‘acute gambler’, Jethmalani hinted at financial motives behind the purported forgery.
Priya Kapur has countered by seeking confidentiality in proceedings, asking to submit details of Sunjay’s assets in a sealed cover, given the estate’s sensitivity. The court has granted her limited protection while demanding clarification on the digital anomalies and contested details raised by the heirs.
The case, involving one of India’s most high-profile business families, now turns on whether the disputed will stands as genuine or as a document manipulated in pursuit of wealth and control.
