The battle over the estate of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur has taken a dramatic turn, with his mother, Rani Kapur, openly siding with his ex‑wife, Karisma Kapoor, against his widow, Priya Sachdev Kapur. At the centre of the dispute is a will that reportedly omits Rani Kapur entirely, raising serious questions about its validity and the fairness of asset distribution.
According to sources, Rani Kapur has accused Priya of attempting to take control of Sunjay’s companies and personal assets immediately after his passing. Legal representatives for Rani have argued that it is highly unlikely Sunjay would leave everything to his widow while excluding his mother, who played a significant role in his life. The allegations include claims that valuables such as artworks, bank accounts, and other unlisted assets were deliberately omitted from the inventory submitted to the court.
Sunjay’s children from his earlier marriage, represented by Karisma Kapoor, have also contested the will. They have raised concerns over the delay in presenting the document and its lack of prior transparency, requesting the court to prevent Priya from making decisions regarding the estate until its authenticity is verified.
Priya Sachdev Kapur, however, maintains that the will reflects her husband’s final wishes and insists she is entitled to manage the estate. She has urged the court to recognise her as the legal heir and protector of the family’s businesses. The company itself stated that Rani Kapur has not held any stake in the firm since 2019, countering claims about her involvement.
The Delhi High Court has instructed Priya to provide a comprehensive list of all assets, including movable and immovable property, bank accounts, investments, and valuables, to ensure a fair examination. With emotions running high, legal proceedings are expected to continue for months, leaving the distribution of a fortune reportedly worth thousands of crores in limbo.
