Meta revenue chief Hegeman quits for startup

After nearly two decades, Meta’s top revenue executive strikes out on his own

John Hegeman, Meta’s Chief Revenue Officer, has announced his departure from the company after 17 years to launch his own startup. Hegeman, who played a key role in shaping Meta’s advertising and revenue strategy, described the decision as a mix of excitement and reflection, emphasizing his long-held desire to build something new.

During his time at Meta, Hegeman oversaw core advertising platforms, the feed, Stories, notifications, and other revenue operations, helping turn Meta into one of the most profitable advertising networks in tech. His leadership was crucial in expanding the company’s global monetization and maintaining steady growth across markets.

Following his exit, Andrew Bocking, a senior executive, will take over Hegeman’s responsibilities in advertising and business messaging. At the same time, Meta is reorganizing its AI teams to strengthen its artificial intelligence initiatives, assigning key leaders to oversee new projects and long-term innovation strategies.

Hegeman’s departure comes amid a period of growing investor focus on Meta’s AI spending. While the company continues to report strong revenues, rising investment in AI infrastructure has prompted strategic changes in leadership to ensure continued growth and innovation.

Although details about his new venture remain under wraps, Hegeman’s track record at Meta suggests that his startup could have a significant impact on the tech sector. His exit reflects a broader trend of experienced executives leaving established tech firms to pursue entrepreneurial ambitions.

As Meta continues to refine its business strategies and expand its AI capabilities, Hegeman’s next move will be closely watched by industry observers, signaling both the opportunities and challenges of innovation in the rapidly evolving tech landscape.
