PMO’s new complex named “Seva Teerth”

The renaming under the Central Vista project reflects a shift from power to citizen-focused public service

In a move that blends tradition with modern governance, the new Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) complex in New Delhi has been officially named Seva Teerth, meaning “service pilgrimage.” The name is part of the ongoing Central Vista Redevelopment Project, which aims to modernise the heart of India’s administrative machinery while signalling a renewed commitment to serving the public.

The complex, which was earlier referred to as the “Executive Enclave,” is nearly ready to welcome the country’s top policymakers. Beyond the PMO, it will also house offices for the Cabinet Secretariat, the National Security Council Secretariat, and “India House,” a venue designed for high-level meetings with visiting leaders from around the world.

Officials explain that the name Seva Teerth was chosen deliberately to remind everyone, from public servants to citizens,  that governance is ultimately about service, not authority. The idea is to turn what could be seen as a purely administrative space into a symbol of duty, humility, and citizen-centric decision-making.

This renaming fits into a wider trend under the Central Vista project, where several key government buildings have been rebranded to reflect Indian values. The Prime Minister’s official residence is now called Lok Kalyan Marg, and the central Secretariat has been renamed Kartavya Bhavan, both reinforcing the principle that leadership is about responsibility and welfare, not mere power.

For ordinary citizens, the renaming is more than symbolic. It is a gentle reminder that the spaces where decisions affecting millions are made should reflect service, empathy, and accountability. By calling the PMO Seva Teerth, the government hopes to foster a culture where public service is valued above hierarchy, and where officials remain connected to the people they serve.

In essence, the new PMO complex is not just a modern administrative hub. Its name carries a message: governance is a journey of service, and every decision made within its walls should be a step toward the betterment of the nation and its citizens.
