Sunetra Pawar to win Baramati bypoll

Congress steps aside, clearing path for NCP leader’s easy victory

Sunetra Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and a leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction), is set to win the Baramati Assembly by-election without a contest. The Congress decided to withdraw its candidate, effectively clearing the way for her victory.

The bypoll was held after the sudden death of her husband, veteran politician Ajit Pawar, earlier this year. His passing left the Baramati seat vacant, and Sunetra Pawar had filed her nomination to continue his work in the constituency.

Initially, the Congress had fielded Akash More as its candidate. However, after discussions with senior NCP leaders and calls from Sharad Pawar to respect Ajit Pawar’s legacy, the party withdrew More’s nomination. This decision has ensured that Sunetra Pawar will be elected unopposed, sparing voters from going to the polls.

Sunetra Pawar has pledged to carry forward her husband’s vision and development work in Baramati. The constituency has long been a stronghold of the Pawar family, and her unopposed win underscores their continuing influence in local politics.
