Three Cutting-Edge Ships Launched at Cochin Shipyard

From submarine hunters to green energy support and giant dredgers, India is making waves on all fronts

India is charting a bold new course with three cutting-edge ships launched at Cochin Shipyard. In a proud moment for the country’s maritime journey, Cochin Shipyard has unveiled three very different but equally impressive vessels.

Each one tells a unique story: one is built to protect India’s shores, another to power clean energy far offshore, and the third to keep our ports ready for the future. Together, they reflect India’s growing confidence and innovation in building ships that will shape its future at sea.

Leading the fleet is a sleek anti-submarine warfare craft for the Indian Navy. Fast and agile, it’s equipped with advanced sonar, torpedoes, and rockets to detect and neutralise underwater threats near the coastline. This vessel is a much-needed upgrade, enhancing India’s coastal defence with modern technology and endurance.

Next is a forward-thinking hybrid-electric support vessel designed for offshore wind farms. Powered by methanol-compatible engines and large battery packs, this ship combines low emissions with comfort — offering a quiet, safe home for technicians working at sea. Its innovative design supports India’s push toward cleaner, sustainable energy.

Rounding out the trio is India’s largest dredger, a giant vessel tasked with deepening ports and ensuring smooth maritime trade. With a massive hopper capacity and the ability to dredge deep channels, it’s a critical tool for expanding and maintaining India’s coastline infrastructure.

Together, these launches highlight India’s growing strength in defence, green energy, and port development,  all crafted domestically with skill and vision. More than just new ships, they are symbols of a country steering its own maritime future with ambition and pride.
