Around late Monday night, security forces in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control, killing two terrorists in a fierce gunfight. The encounter occurred near the Machil and Dudniyal sectors, where alert troops detected suspicious movement close to the border. When challenged, the intruders opened fire, prompting a swift and intense exchange wherein 2 militants were neutralized.
The Army responded by deploying flares and stepping up patrols amid reports of coordinated infiltration efforts, including multiple blasts in the Dudniyal sector. This heightened activity along the LoC comes in the backdrop of recent ceasefire violations and intelligence pointing to increased militant movements across the border.
Officials said the operation began around 7 PM, involving a joint effort by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police. Search operations are ongoing in the challenging, forested terrain to ensure no other militants remain in the area as forces prepare for the winter closure of mountain passes.
Army sources confirmed recovering “war-like stores” with arms and ammunition at the site. The incident has raised alarm among local border communities, highlighting the ongoing struggle to maintain peace amid persistent cross-border threats. Security personnel remain on high alert, determined to foil any further infiltration attempts as winter approaches.
