US destroys Iran’s tallest bridge in airstrike

Trump warns of more strikes as tensions escalate

US President Donald Trump has announced the destruction of Iran’s tallest bridge, the B1 Bridge in Karaj, near Tehran, in a targeted airstrike. The president posted video footage on social media and cautioned that additional attacks could follow unless Iran enters negotiations.

The bridge, still under construction, was among the Middle East’s tallest structures, standing about 136 metres (447 feet) high. US forces reportedly carried out two strikes: the initial attack and a follow-up as emergency crews responded to the site. Iranian authorities confirmed civilian casualties, with at least eight dead and around 95 injured.

Iranian officials condemned the strike, calling it an attack on civilian infrastructure that demonstrates “moral failure” rather than achieving political goals. The deputy governor of Karaj said the destruction would not force Iran to surrender, while the foreign ministry warned of possible retaliation if attacks continue.

Trump framed the operation as pressure on Iran to negotiate, warning that failure to comply could lead to more destruction. However, Tehran’s leadership has rejected such pressure, pledging to protect its sovereignty and resist external threats.

The incident has prompted international concern about escalating conflict in the region. Observers warn that attacks on key infrastructure, such as bridges, could disrupt civilian life, logistics, and trade within Iran, while increasing instability in a volatile region.

The airstrike is part of a broader US campaign in the region, which has already hit strategic locations and heightened tensions in the Middle East.
