Vijay emotional at Jana Nayagan audio launch

Tamil star and politician Vijay thanks fans, hints retirement, attracts record crowd, eyes politics.

Tamil superstar Vijay made an emotional appearance at the Jana Nayagan audio launch held on December 27 at Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The event, officially recorded in the Malaysia Book of Records, drew nearly 100,000 fans, making it the largest audio launch crowd outside India. Fans gathered from across Malaysia and other countries to celebrate the release of music from Vijay’s latest film, directed by H. Vinoth and featuring Pooja Hegde in a key role.

During his speech, Vijay appeared deeply moved as he thanked his fans for their unwavering support throughout his career. He said he is planning to “give up cinema” to focus more on serving his supporters, a statement that surprised many and sparked speculation about his future in politics. Using the Tamil word kottai (meaning fort) as a metaphor, he said his fans had built a palace for him through their love and loyalty. He expressed special gratitude to the Tamil diaspora in Malaysia, acknowledging the strong connection he shares with them.

The launch also showcased the film’s soundtrack, with live performances from music director Anirudh Ravichander and other artists. Songs like “Chella Magale” were performed, generating excitement among the audience. Colleagues and co-stars contributed to the emotional atmosphere. Pooja Hegde shared her positive experience working with Vijay, while veteran actor Nasser praised him, urging him to reconsider retirement given his immense contribution to Tamil cinema.

Despite strict security measures and restrictions on political speeches, the event became a celebration of Vijay’s career and his bond with fans. The crowd responded enthusiastically to every moment, turning the stadium into a sea of lights and cheers.

Jana Nayagan is scheduled for worldwide release on January 9, 2026, coinciding with the Pongal festival. Given Vijay’s hints about stepping away from films, this movie is being widely seen as his potential cinematic swan song. Fans, colleagues, and industry insiders left the event with mixed emotions—joy for the celebration and nostalgia, as they witnessed what could be the farewell of one of Tamil cinema’s most beloved stars.
