XChat to debut on iPhone, iPad

X is launching XChat on Apple devices, offering encrypted, ad-free messaging with a stronger focus on privacy and control.

Elon Musk’s X is getting ready to introduce a new messaging app called XChat for iPhone and iPad users, expanding its push into private communication.

The app is expected to launch soon and is already available for pre-order on the App Store. Unlike messaging inside the main X platform, XChat is designed as a standalone app focused entirely on chats and calls.

At its core, XChat is built around privacy. Messages will be protected with end-to-end encryption, so only the people in a conversation can access them. Users will also get tools like disappearing messages, message editing, deletion options, and the ability to prevent screenshots.

The app will support large group chats, reportedly accommodating hundreds of users, along with voice and video calling features. It also removes the need for a phone number, making it easier to connect across devices.

XChat is expected to work smoothly between iPhones and iPads, letting users switch devices without losing their conversations. Reports also suggest the app will not include ads and will avoid tracking user activity, aligning with a more privacy-focused approach.

There are indications that X’s AI assistant, Grok, could be integrated into chats for assistance and information, although such features may be limited in encrypted conversations.

With XChat, X appears to be positioning itself not just as a social media platform, but as a broader communication service competing in the secure messaging space.
