The Quad nations, India, the United States, Japan and Australia, have decided to deepen cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, with greater focus on regional security and critical mineral supply chains.
During the latest Quad discussions, External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar said the Indo-Pacific will become increasingly important for the world in the coming years. He noted that the region is expected to play a major role in global trade, economic growth and strategic developments.
One of the major areas discussed during the meeting was maritime surveillance. The four countries are expected to strengthen information-sharing and monitoring systems across important sea routes to improve regional security and awareness.
The Quad members also agreed to expand cooperation in critical minerals, which are essential for technologies such as batteries, electric vehicles and renewable energy systems. Countries are increasingly focusing on building stable supply chains and reducing dependence on limited sources for these resources.
Jaishankar also highlighted the changing global landscape and pointed to the increasing significance of the Indo-Pacific in shaping international partnerships and future economic priorities.
Over the years, the Quad has expanded beyond traditional security concerns. The group now works together on issues including technology, infrastructure, climate initiatives and supply-chain resilience.
Analysts believe the latest discussions underline the growing strategic importance of the Indo-Pacific region. As global priorities continue to evolve, cooperation among the four nations is expected to strengthen further in the future.
