Internet curbs in Jaipur due to anti-encroachment

Security tightened ahead of a government operation to remove illegal structures built on public land

Internet services were suspended and prohibitory orders were imposed in parts of Jaipur on Sunday as authorities prepared to carry out a major anti-encroachment drive in the city. The administration said the measures were taken to maintain law and order and prevent the spread of rumours during the operation.

The drive is being conducted in the Ramganj and surrounding areas of Jaipur, where several religious structures, including temples and a mosque, have been identified as encroachments on government land. Officials stated that notices had been issued earlier and that the action was part of a broader effort to clear illegal constructions from public property.

To avoid any untoward incidents, authorities suspended mobile internet services in sensitive areas and enforced prohibitory orders restricting large public gatherings. A large number of police personnel, including senior officers and rapid response teams, were deployed across the affected localities. Barricades were also placed at key locations to regulate movement and ensure security.

According to officials, the administration held discussions with community representatives and religious leaders before initiating the drive. Authorities appealed to residents to maintain peace and cooperate with the administration. They emphasized that the operation was being carried out in accordance with court orders and legal procedures.

The proposed demolition of religious structures has attracted public attention and sparked concern among local residents. However, officials maintained that the action was not directed against any particular community and was solely aimed at removing unauthorized constructions on government land.

Jaipur District Collector and police officials reviewed security arrangements ahead of the operation and said strict monitoring would continue throughout the day. Surveillance teams were also deployed to keep watch on social media platforms and prevent the circulation of misleading information.
