BJP’s Women-Led Slate for Jubilee Hills Bypoll in Telangana

Party’s state committee submits names of six contenders, with four women leading the race for the high-profile Hyderabad seat

The Telangana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has shortlisted six potential candidates for the upcoming Jubilee Hills Bypoll, with four women contenders emerging as the party’s top picks. The internal committee finalized the names on Wednesday and submitted them to the state leadership, which will soon forward the list to the BJP central leadership for approval.

The shortlisted names include Lankala Deepak Reddy, the BJP’s 2023 candidate from Jubilee Hills; Juturu Keerthi Reddy, a grassroots party worker; Akula Padma, senior leader and former MLA; Atluri Ramakrishna, veteran party organizer; and Madhavi Latha, businesswoman and party spokesperson. Some reports indicated overlap or internal reshuffling between Madhavi Latha and Padma in the list.

A three-member screening committee comprising M. Dharma Rao, A. Pothuganti Ramulu, and Komala Anjaneyulu evaluated the aspirants based on their political record, popularity, and their ability to connect with urban voters.

Party insiders said the emphasis on women candidates is intentional, aimed at appealing to Jubilee Hills’ cosmopolitan and diverse electorate. “The high representation of women reflects the BJP’s effort toward gender-inclusive leadership,” said a senior party source.

Among the contenders, Madhavi Latha has publicly expressed her willingness to contest, calling out both BRS and Congress for “misgovernance and dynastic politics.” She said voters were “seeking credible and corruption-free governance.”

The state leadership is expected to narrow the list to three names before submitting it to the BJP’s central committee for final approval. The decision will be overseen by Telangana in-charge Sunil Bansal, though his meeting with state leaders has been delayed due to prior commitments in West Bengal.

Located in Hyderabad, the Jubilee Hills constituency is a crucial battleground long held by the BRS. The by-election was triggered by the resignation of the sitting MLA, setting the stage for a triangular contest between BJP, BRS, and Congress.
