NDA ahead in Bihar, RJD steady, Congress weak

BJP–JD(U) alliance comfortably crossing the majority mark, while the opposition Mahagathbandhan struggles to keep pace

Counting of votes for the Bihar Assembly elections began this morning under heavy security, and early trends clearly indicate a strong wave in favour of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The alliance quickly crossed the majority mark of 122 seats within the initial rounds, signalling a decisive lead.

The BJP was ahead in around 69 constituencies, while JD(U) led in about 76 seats. Their ally, the LJP (Ram Vilas), strengthened the NDA tally further with leads in nearly 12 seats. Combined, the alliance appears firmly positioned to secure a comfortable victory.

The opposition Mahagathbandhan, however, is falling behind. The RJD led in about 59 seats and continues to be the strongest performer in the bloc. The Congress, contesting 61 seats, was ahead in only around 14–16 constituencies, emerging once again as the weak link. This mirrors its previous low strike rate in the 2020 elections. The Jan Suraj Party held leads in two seats.

Prominent candidates registered early gains, with Maithili Thakur in Alinagar, Anant Kumar Singh in Mokama, and Tejashwi Yadav in Raghopur.

Security has been tightened across all counting centres with multi-layer protection and continuous CCTV monitoring. Early trends are broadly in line with exit poll predictions that favoured the NDA.

More detailed updates are expected as later rounds of counting progress, but the early momentum remains strongly in the NDA’s favour.
