PM Modi urges progress at parliament winter session

Government pushes reforms while Opposition raises electoral revision and patriotic slogans issues

The Winter Session of India’s Parliament began on 1 December 2025, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasizing that the session should go beyond formalities and drive India’s developmental goals.

Citing recent elections, particularly in Bihar, PM Modi highlighted the strength of Indian democracy, including active participation by women voters. He urged all parties to convert this democratic energy into concrete legislative results instead of political theatrics.

The Prime Minister called for a constructive atmosphere in the House, asking parties to avoid post-election frustrations or victory arrogance. He also stressed the importance of allowing first-time and younger MPs to raise constituency issues.

The government has placed several major bills on the agenda, covering higher education, national highways, corporate law reforms, and excise duties on tobacco and related products — reflecting a focus on governance, economic growth, and regulatory reforms.

Meanwhile, the opposition is expected to press for debates on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, along with other key issues like national security, air pollution, and public welfare policies.

The session was adjourned for the day after the opening proceedings, setting the stage for debates and legislative action in the coming days.
