Hyderabad plans global road names to attract investors

Global names like Trump, Tata, Google roads proposed to boost brand

Hyderabad is set for a major makeover as the Telangana government plans to rename several important roads after famous global leaders, respected Indian industrialists and well-known technology companies. The move is being led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and is aimed at giving the city a stronger global identity and attracting more international investment.

One of the key proposals is to rename the road near the United States Consulate in Hyderabad as Donald Trump Avenue. Officials said this step is meant to highlight strong ties between India and the United States and to make Hyderabad stand out as an international city. The proposal has been sent for formal approval.

Another road, a new greenfield radial road connecting the Outer Ring Road with the upcoming Regional Ring Road, will be named after Ratan Tata. This is being done to honour his contribution to Indian industry and social development. A major interchange on this route has already been named Tata Interchange.

The government also plans to rename roads in Hyderabad’s Financial District to reflect the growing presence of global technology companies in the city. A road near Google’s upcoming campus is expected to be called Google Street. Other names under consideration include Microsoft Road and Wipro Junction.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said that these steps are part of a larger plan to showcase Hyderabad as a modern, business-friendly and innovation-driven city. According to him, symbolic changes like road names may look small, but they help build a strong global brand image for the city.

The plan has sparked mixed reactions. While many business groups have welcomed the move, saying it could improve Hyderabad’s global visibility, some political leaders have criticised the decision, especially the idea of naming roads after foreign leaders. The state government has responded by saying that the goal is not politics, but economic growth and international recognition.

The proposals are currently going through official procedures. Once approved, the new road names will be notified and signage will be updated in phases across the city.
