A tragic accident on the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh early Tuesday morning has claimed at least 13 lives and left dozens injured. The collision occurred near Mathura in dense fog, which officials believe was the primary cause of the pile-up.
Police said seven buses and several cars were involved. Some vehicles caught fire after the impact, making rescue operations more challenging. Emergency teams, including police and firefighters, rushed to the scene to control the flames and evacuate survivors.
Authorities confirmed that dozens of people sustained injuries, with some in serious condition due to burns and fractures. Witnesses described chaotic scenes, as smoke and flames engulfed multiple vehicles. Officials said the fog drastically reduced visibility, and drivers could not stop in time, leading to the massive crash.
Investigations are underway to determine the exact causes. Preliminary findings suggest dense fog and poor visibility played a key role, though overspeeding and delayed reactions may have contributed. Police and local authorities have urged drivers to exercise extreme caution on expressways during foggy conditions, maintain safe distances, and drive slowly.
The Yamuna Expressway, a major corridor connecting Delhi and Agra, witnesses heavy traffic daily. Accidents during fog are common, but this pile-up is among the deadliest in recent years, emphasizing the dangers of low-visibility conditions combined with high-speed traffic.
Emergency helplines have been activated, and hospitals are coordinating to provide timely treatment for victims. Firefighters and rescue personnel are also inspecting the expressway stretch to prevent further casualties in ongoing foggy conditions.
