Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, the brothers who owned a popular nightclub in North Goa, have been deported from Thailand and sent back to India in connection with a tragic fire that claimed 25 lives.
The fire broke out at their nightclub in Arpora on December 6, turning a night of celebration into a devastating tragedy. Many victims were young people who had gone out to enjoy the evening, unaware of the danger they were walking into.
Soon after the incident, the Luthra brothers left India and travelled to Thailand. As the investigation gathered pace, Indian authorities moved to trace them. Their passports were suspended, and Thai officials detained them for overstaying illegally.
After coordination between Indian and Thai authorities, the brothers were deported and put on a flight from Bangkok to Delhi. On arrival, they are expected to be produced before a court and later taken to Goa, where the case is being investigated.
Police allege that serious safety lapses at the club contributed to the scale of the tragedy. The case has been registered under charges related to negligence and culpable homicide.
The incident shocked Goa and the country, raising urgent questions about fire safety, crowd control, and regulatory oversight at nightlife venues. For the families who lost loved ones, the return of the accused is a step toward accountability, though the pain of the loss remains deep and irreversible.
