Faridabad’s Al Falah University has come under the scanner after the Red Fort blast in Delhi that killed nine people and injured over 20 on November 10. Investigators have found that one of its former professors was earlier dismissed by the Jammu and Kashmir government for terror-related activities, raising serious questions about the university’s hiring practices.
The professor, Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan, was removed from service at Srinagar’s SMHS Hospital in 2023 under Article 311(2)(c) of the Constitution, which allows termination without an inquiry in matters involving national security. He was accused of having links with extremist groups and engaging in “anti-national activities.” After his dismissal, he joined Al Falah University’s Department of Medicine as a professor. He has been missing since the Delhi blast and is now being traced by security agencies.
The probe has also led to the arrest of several individuals associated with the university. Among them are Dr Shaheen Saeed, from whose vehicle police recovered an assault rifle and ammunition, and Dr Muzammil Shakeel, caught with nearly 2,900 kg of explosives. Another faculty member, Dr Umar Nabi, is believed to have driven the car that exploded near the Red Fort.
Investigators suspect the group was part of a larger terror network that planned multiple blasts across Delhi-NCR, targeting landmarks such as India Gate, Constitution Club, and Gauri Shankar Temple, using over 200 IEDs.
The university administration said it is fully cooperating with the investigation and will support law enforcement in every way. Officials are now examining how individuals with past terror links secured jobs at the institution and whether the university had prior knowledge of their backgrounds.
