The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has sealed a spice shop owned by the family of Siya Goyal, the woman arrested in connection with the murder of Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal. The action came after officials found several food safety violations during an inspection at the family’s business in Pune.
According to the FDA, the shop was operating without the required food licence and was found storing and selling food products in unhygienic conditions. During the raid, officials seized food items, including spices and other packaged products, worth around ₹8.14 lakh. The products have been sent for laboratory testing to check whether they meet food safety standards.
Officials said preliminary findings also pointed to possible food adulteration and labelling violations. As a result, the shop has been sealed, and further action will depend on the laboratory reports and the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
The inspection was carried out after the business came under public attention following the arrest of Siya Goyal in the sensational murder case of realtor Ketan Agarwal. However, FDA officials clarified that the raid was based on alleged violations of food safety laws and is separate from the criminal investigation into the murder.
The murder case has drawn widespread attention in Pune. Police have alleged that Siya Goyal and others were involved in the killing of Agarwal, whose body was later recovered during the investigation. The case is currently being probed by the Pune Police, and several aspects, including the motive behind the crime, are still under investigation.
Meanwhile, the FDA said it will continue examining the seized products and verify whether the business complied with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act. If the laboratory tests confirm adulteration or other violations, the owners could face legal action, including penalties and prosecution.
