Google launches screenless Fitbit Air

New wearable brings AI health insights, sleep tracking and iPhone compatibility

Google has launched Fitbit Air, a new AI-powered fitness tracker that focuses entirely on health monitoring and wellness insights without offering a traditional smartwatch display. The company says the product is designed for users who prefer minimal distractions while still receiving detailed health data and personalised fitness recommendations.

The Fitbit Air comes as a lightweight wrist strap priced at $99 and uses Google’s Gemini AI system to analyse user activity and biometric patterns. The device continuously tracks metrics such as heart rate, sleep quality, blood oxygen levels, temperature changes, recovery status, and daily activity levels.

Unlike smartwatches, Fitbit Air has no screen, apps, or notifications. Users access their data through Google’s newly introduced Health app, which combines health, sleep, and fitness information into a single platform. Google said the AI system can generate personalised suggestions for exercise, recovery, sleep improvement, and overall wellness management.

Battery life is one of the device’s key features, with Google claiming up to seven days of usage on a single charge. The wearable also supports both Android and iPhone devices, helping Google expand beyond its own ecosystem.

Google is also introducing a subscription-based AI coaching service alongside the device, offering deeper health analysis and personalised guidance for users seeking advanced wellness tracking.

This signals Google’s deeper move into AI-based health technology as demand for smart wellness devices continues to rise globally. Fitbit Air directly targets competitors such as Whoop and Oura, which have become popular for screenless health-focused wearables.
