LPG Cheaper, Jet Fuel Dearer from Nov 1

Restaurants gain marginal relief while rising jet fuel burdens aviation sector

From November 1, prices of commercial LPG cylinders were reduced across India’s major cities, providing some respite for restaurants, hotels, and catering businesses. However, aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices rose marginally, marking the second straight monthly hike for airlines.

In Delhi, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder dropped by ₹5 to ₹1,590.50. Similar cuts were implemented in other metros—₹6.50 in Kolkata (new price ₹1,694), ₹5 in Mumbai (₹1,542), and ₹4.50 in Chennai (₹1,750).

Meanwhile, ATF prices increased by 0.8%, or ₹777 per kilolitre, bringing the new rate in Delhi to ₹94,543.02 per kl. ATF costs in Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai rose to ₹98,608.20, ₹87,801.88, and ₹98,070.10 per kl respectively. The rise adds cost pressure on airlines, as jet fuel accounts for around 40% of their operating expenses.

No change was made to the prices of domestic LPG (14.2-kg cylinders), petrol, or diesel. The domestic LPG rate in Delhi stays at ₹853 per cylinder, petrol at ₹94.72/litre, and diesel at ₹87.62/litre.

These price revisions are carried out monthly by state-run oil marketing companies based on global crude price trends and foreign exchange fluctuations.
