Monsoon fury continues across several states

Delhi, Mumbai, Kerala, Pune face floods as rain disrupts normal life nationwide

Heavy monsoon rains continued to affect several parts of the country on Thursday, causing waterlogging, traffic disruptions and rescue operations in many cities. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that while rainfall intensity may reduce gradually over the next few days, heavy showers are likely to continue in several regions.

Maharashtra remained among the worst-affected states. In Pune, heavy rain triggered flooding in low-lying areas and slowed traffic across the city. Rescue teams remained on alert following a building collapse, while civic authorities shifted residents from vulnerable locations to safer places.

Delhi and Mumbai also witnessed widespread waterlogging after persistent rain. Commuters faced long traffic jams, delays in public transport and disruption to daily activities as several roads remained inundated.

In Kerala, the IMD issued weather alerts for five districts, warning of heavy rainfall and the possibility of isolated landslides in hilly areas. People living in low-lying regions have been advised to stay alert, while fishermen have been asked not to venture into the sea because of rough weather conditions.

According to the weather department, the active monsoon is likely to continue over many parts of the country, bringing heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds to isolated places. Although the intensity of rain is expected to ease gradually, authorities have urged people to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy showers and follow official weather advisories.

With the monsoon remaining active, emergency teams are on standby in several states to deal with flooding and rain-related incidents. Officials have appealed to residents to remain cautious, especially in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas, as intermittent heavy rain is expected over the next few days.
