Telangana nights 2–3°C colder as cold wave continues

IMD issues alerts in Adilabad, Komuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, and Nirmal as temperatures dip

Telangana is experiencing a persistent cold spell as winter deepens, with minimum temperatures running 2–3°C below normal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The chill is most pronounced during early mornings and nights, prompting residents to take precautionary measures.

The IMD has issued cold wave alerts for four districts—Adilabad, Komuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, and Nirmal—where isolated pockets are expected to experience severe cold conditions. Other districts, including Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, and parts of Hyderabad, are also expected to record below-normal temperatures. The IMD has advised children, the elderly, and outdoor workers to take special care during the early hours and late evenings.

In Hyderabad and nearby regions, minimum temperatures are likely to remain around 11–12°C, while some northern districts, including Adilabad and Nirmal, have recorded lows close to 9°C–10°C, which is well below the usual December averages. The Telangana Development Planning Society (TDPS) has confirmed that temperatures in most northern and central districts are 2–3°C lower than the normal for this time of year, highlighting the intensity of the cold wave.

Dry weather is expected to continue, with no significant rainfall predicted over the next few days. Meteorologists warn that the cold spell may persist until late December, meaning residents should prepare for chilly mornings and evenings. Simple measures such as wearing layered clothing, consuming warm drinks, and avoiding prolonged outdoor exposure are recommended to stay safe.

Authorities have also advised schools, hospitals, and other public institutions to ensure that vulnerable populations are protected from the cold. Farmers are being urged to take steps to protect crops and livestock from frost in districts experiencing the lowest temperatures.

As Telangana residents adjust to the winter chill, blankets, warm clothing, and heaters have become essential, especially in the northern and central districts. The ongoing cold wave serves as a reminder of the intensity of winter, with night temperatures remaining below normal for several days to come.
