Narendra Modi inaugurated the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway on April 14, marking a major step towards improving road connectivity between Delhi and Uttarakhand.
The expressway is expected to significantly reduce travel time between the two cities—from around six hours to nearly 2–2.5 hours. This will make journeys faster and more convenient for daily commuters as well as tourists heading to Uttarakhand.
The project spans over 200 kilometres and has been built at a cost of more than ₹12,000 crore. It passes through Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, and is designed as a six-lane, access-controlled highway to ensure smoother traffic flow.
One of the key highlights of the expressway is its focus on environmental protection. It features a long elevated stretch near the Rajaji National Park, along with special wildlife crossings to allow animals to move safely without disturbing their natural habitat.
The highway also includes modern infrastructure such as interchanges, underpasses, and advanced traffic systems, which are expected to improve safety and reduce congestion.
During the inauguration, the Prime Minister also held a roadshow, drawing attention to the project and its importance for regional development.
Officials believe the project will not only make travel easier but also boost tourism and economic activity in the region. Better connectivity is likely to attract more visitors and support local businesses.
