Sanjay Dutt is set to revisit one of his most iconic roles, announcing a sequel titled Khalnayak Returns, based on the 1993 cult hit Khal Nayak.
At a recent event, the actor confirmed that he will once again play Ballu Balram, the rebellious character that made a huge impact when the original film released over 30 years ago.
Dutt shared a personal connection to the sequel’s idea, saying it came to him while he was in jail during his legal troubles in the 1990s. He recalled discussing the concept with fellow inmates, many of whom encouraged him to turn it into a film and even shared story ideas.
Over the years, the idea gradually developed into a full project, eventually taking shape with filmmaker Subhash Ghai, who directed the original movie, also involved in the rights and production discussions.
A teaser released along with the announcement gives a glimpse of Ballu’s return, hinting at a darker and more intense version of the character. While details about the storyline are still under wraps, the film is expected to continue the legacy of the original while giving it a modern twist.
The 1993 Khal Nayak was a major success and is still remembered for its strong performances, music, and Dutt’s portrayal of an anti-hero caught between crime and redemption.
Fans have reacted with nostalgia and excitement, welcoming the return of a character that became a defining role in Sanjay Dutt’s career.
More details, including the release date and full cast, are expected to be announced soon as the project moves ahead.
