A group of more than 200 people from India’s Bnei Menashe community has arrived in Israel, continuing a long-running migration journey that has been unfolding for years.
The group landed at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport, where they were received by officials and community representatives. Most of those who arrived are from Manipur and Mizoram in Northeast India.
The Bnei Menashe community traces its roots to what they believe is an ancient link with the “lost tribes” of Israel. Over time, many families in the community have adopted Jewish traditions and have been seeking to move to Israel under its Law of Return.
This latest arrival is part of a phased programme through which Israel is gradually bringing members of the community to the country. Authorities say more groups are expected in the coming months as part of this ongoing effort.
After landing, the newcomers went through standard entry and registration procedures. They will also begin the process of integration, which includes orientation and, in some cases, religious conversion requirements before settling permanently.
Many of the arrivals are expected to be placed in communities in northern Israel, where earlier groups from the same community have also been settled.
Over the past two decades, several thousand Bnei Menashe members have already moved to Israel, though a significant number still remain in India and are awaiting approval to migrate.
The latest group’s arrival reflects the continued effort on both sides to complete the relocation process in stages, with more flights planned as part of the broader programme.
