Microsoft is introducing fresh changes to Windows 11 that will give users more control over software updates, restarts and installation timing.
The update comes after years of feedback from users who complained that automatic updates often happened at inconvenient times, interrupting office work, online meetings, gaming sessions and other important tasks.
With the new changes, Windows 11 users will be able to pause updates for longer periods and extend the delay when required. This means users can decide when they want to install updates instead of being pushed into immediate downloads or sudden restarts.
Microsoft is also easing restart rules. Even when an update is ready, users will be able to shut down or restart their computer without being forced to install it straight away. This is expected to make the update process less frustrating, especially for users in a hurry.
Another key improvement is during the setup of a new device. Users setting up a new Windows PC will be able to skip updates during the first-time installation process and finish them later, allowing quicker access to the system.
The company is also working to combine multiple updates wherever possible, which could reduce the number of restarts needed over time.
