A man has been arrested after allegedly stabbing two security guards in Maharashtra’s Thane district, in an incident that has shocked residents and prompted an Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) investigation.
The attack took place early on April 28 at an under-construction building in the Mira Road area near Mumbai. Police said the guards were on duty when the accused approached them and suddenly attacked them with a knife.
Both guards suffered injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital. Officials said they are in stable condition and receiving treatment. Police teams quickly tracked down and arrested the suspect soon after the incident. Given the nature of the attack and concerns around motive, the case was later handed over to the ATS for a deeper probe.
Investigators are examining every possible angle, including whether the man acted alone, whether he had any specific target, and what may have triggered the assault. Officials have not yet announced a confirmed motive.
The incident has unsettled many people in the area, especially because it happened during routine duty hours when the guards were simply doing their jobs. Residents said such sudden violence is rare in the locality and has raised fresh concerns about security at residential and commercial sites.
Security guards are often the first people visitors and residents rely on for safety, making attacks on them particularly disturbing. The accused’s background, recent movements and possible online activity are also being checked as part of the investigation.
The swift involvement of the ATS shows that officials are taking the matter seriously, particularly because the incident occurred close to Mumbai, where security agencies remain highly alert.
