Noida International Airport starts on June 15

IndiGo to launch first service as NCR gets second major airport

After years of planning and construction, Noida International Airport is finally ready to take off, with commercial flight operations set to begin from June 15.

The new airport, located in Jewar, will serve as a second major aviation hub for the Delhi-NCR region, alongside Indira Gandhi International Airport. It is expected to ease the heavy passenger load at Delhi’s main airport while making air travel more accessible for people living in Noida, Greater Noida, and nearby parts of western Uttar Pradesh.

IndiGo will operate the first flight from the airport, marking the beginning of regular passenger services. Other airlines are also expected to join soon, gradually expanding the number of routes and destinations available.

In its early phase, the airport will focus mainly on domestic travel, connecting passengers to major cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. International flights are expected to be added in the next stage, once operations settle and demand builds up.

The project is one of India’s biggest greenfield airport developments and is seen as a key step in improving the country’s aviation infrastructure. Beyond passenger travel, the airport is also expected to boost cargo movement, which could benefit businesses and trade in the region.

Officials say all necessary approvals, including safety and security clearances, have been completed, allowing the airport to begin operations as scheduled. In its first phase, it will be able to handle around 12 million passengers annually, with plans to expand capacity significantly in the coming years.

For travellers, the new airport could mean shorter travel times and less congestion, especially for those who currently rely on Delhi’s busy airport. For the region, it is expected to bring economic opportunities, better connectivity, and improved infrastructure.
