Vijay’s bid to form government rejected again

Governor says TVK still short of majority despite election gains

TVK chief and actor Vijay has once again been told he cannot form the government in Tamil Nadu, as he has not yet secured enough support in the Assembly.

Vijay met the Governor for the second consecutive day and claimed he had the backing to form the government after TVK emerged as the single-largest party with 108 seats in the 234-member House. However, the majority mark is 118 seats.

The Governor informed him that he must show clear support of at least 118 MLAs before being invited to take oath as Chief Minister. Since this requirement was not met, the request was not accepted.

TVK is currently trying to gather support from other parties, including Congress, smaller regional groups and independent MLAs. While some parties have shown willingness to support him, final numbers are still not confirmed.

The Congress has reportedly offered conditional support, but discussions are still ongoing and no formal majority list has been submitted.

VCK leader has said Vijay personally reached out to him and also sent a formal request seeking the party’s support to form the government. He added that VCK will discuss the matter internally and consult its Left allies before arriving at a final decision.

This is the second time Vijay’s claim has been turned down, keeping the government formation process on hold in the state.

Meanwhile, political activity has increased in Tamil Nadu, with parties holding meetings and discussions to strengthen their position. Some MLAs have also been moved to secure locations as negotiations continue.

TVK leaders say they are confident of reaching the required numbers and continue to hold meetings with newly elected MLAs.
