The Kerala government has finalised the allocation of portfolios in its new cabinet, with Chief Minister VD Satheesan retaining control of several key departments, including Finance, Law, and General Administration. The Governor has formally approved the distribution of responsibilities among ministers, completing the formation process of the new administration.
According to the approved list, the Chief Minister will continue to oversee Finance, Law, General Administration, and Ports. These departments are considered crucial for governance, policy-making, and the overall administrative functioning of the state. Retaining Finance and Law gives the Chief Minister significant control over budgeting, legislative matters, and major policy decisions.
The new cabinet structure has assigned other important portfolios to senior ministers, ensuring a balanced distribution of responsibilities across the government. Departments such as health, education, local self-government, and public works have been allocated to other cabinet members, though the detailed list of individual allocations has been finalised separately.
Officials said the Governor’s approval marks the final step in completing the cabinet formation process. With portfolios now assigned, the government is expected to move forward with its administrative and policy agenda more actively in the coming days.
Political observers note that the Chief Minister holding key departments is a strategic decision, allowing tighter coordination on financial planning and legal reforms. Finance, in particular, plays a central role in managing state expenditure, development projects, and welfare schemes.
The new cabinet is expected to focus on governance priorities such as infrastructure development, welfare delivery, economic management, and administrative reforms. Ministers will now begin taking charge of their respective departments and reviewing ongoing projects and policy initiatives.
