CBSE resolves OnMark security issues, assures data safety

Board says examination data remains secure and no evidence of a major breach has been found

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has assured students, parents and schools that security issues identified in its OnMark digital assessment portal have been addressed and contained. The board said the vulnerabilities did not affect examination records or compromise the evaluation process.

The clarification comes after concerns emerged over possible weaknesses in the online platform used for assessment-related activities. Reports about the vulnerabilities raised questions about the safety of data stored on the portal and the overall security of the system.

In a statement, CBSE said it responded immediately after the issue was brought to its notice. Technical teams, along with cybersecurity specialists, reviewed the reported vulnerabilities and took corrective steps to secure the platform. The board said the affected areas were fixed quickly to prevent any potential misuse.

CBSE stressed that there was no evidence of a major data breach or any unauthorised changes to examination-related information. It also reassured stakeholders that students’ results, academic records and other important data remained safe and secure.

According to the board, the issue involved technical vulnerabilities and not confirmed cases of data theft or manipulation. To strengthen security further, CBSE has introduced additional monitoring measures and enhanced security checks on the portal.

The OnMark platform plays an important role in supporting CBSE’s assessment and evaluation processes. Given the large number of students and schools connected to the board, concerns about cybersecurity naturally drew attention from parents, teachers and education experts.

CBSE said it remains committed to maintaining the reliability and security of its digital services. The board added that it will continue to review and upgrade its systems regularly to safeguard user data and ensure the smooth functioning of academic processes.

The board’s assurance is likely to provide relief to students, parents and schools, especially at a time when digital platforms have become an integral part of educational administration and assessments.
