West Bengal gets full cabinet as 35 ministers sworn in

BJP government under Suvendu Adhikari begins its first full term. Leaders from across Bengal inducted

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday expanded his ministry, with 35 ministers taking oath as part of the new state cabinet. The swearing-in ceremony marked the completion of cabinet formation following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s victory in the recent Assembly elections.

Governor C.V. Ananda Bose administered the oath of office and secrecy to the ministers at a ceremony attended by senior BJP leaders, party workers and invited guests. The cabinet reflects an effort by the BJP leadership to balance experienced leaders with first-time ministers while also ensuring representation from different regions and communities across the state.

Several senior BJP leaders who played key roles in the party’s election campaign were included in the ministry. At the same time, a number of new faces were inducted, signalling the government’s intention to combine administrative experience with fresh perspectives.

Political observers noted that regional representation was a major factor in the cabinet’s composition. Leaders from north Bengal, south Bengal, tribal areas and border districts were given ministerial responsibilities, reflecting the party’s attempt to strengthen its presence across the state.

The cabinet formation comes at a crucial time as the new government begins work on implementing its election promises. Key priorities are expected to include employment generation, infrastructure development, industrial investment, agriculture, law and order, and welfare programmes.

Addressing the gathering after the ceremony, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said the government would focus on development, transparency and good governance. He emphasised that the administration would work for all sections of society and strive to fulfil the commitments made to the people during the election campaign.

The BJP’s rise to power in West Bengal marks a significant political shift in the state. With the cabinet now in place, attention will turn to the allocation of portfolios and the government’s policy agenda for the coming months.

Political analysts believe the composition of the ministry reflects the BJP’s strategy of maintaining organisational balance while preparing for future electoral challenges. The newly sworn-in ministers are expected to assume charge of their respective departments shortly and begin work on the government’s priorities.
