AR Rahman pays tribute at Attari border

Music maestro pays tribute to BSF personnel at special event

AR Rahman performed live at the Attari border in Punjab for the first time, paying tribute to Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in a special programme that celebrated patriotism and national service.

The event, titled Jai Ho – A Musical Salute to the Bravehearts, was held alongside the iconic Beating Retreat ceremony at the Attari-Wagah border. Organised to honour the dedication and sacrifices of BSF personnel, the programme attracted a large audience and turned the border venue into a unique cultural stage.

Rahman, one of India’s most celebrated musicians, performed several popular songs before an enthusiastic crowd. The performance also featured music from the upcoming film Main Vaapas Aaunga, directed by Imtiaz Ali, with Rahman composing the soundtrack.

The highlight of the evening was Rahman’s rendition of Maa Tujhe Salaam, which received a strong response from the audience. Patriotic songs performed during the event added to the emotional atmosphere and drew loud applause from spectators.

The programme was attended by members of the film’s cast and crew, including actor Vedang Raina. Organisers said the event aimed to honour the courage of BSF personnel while also creating awareness about the upcoming film.

The Attari border, known for its daily Beating Retreat ceremony, remains one of the country’s most symbolic locations. Rahman’s performance added a cultural dimension to the venue, bringing together music, cinema and patriotism in a memorable event.

Thousands of people gathered to witness the show, making it a special occasion for both music lovers and supporters of the armed forces. The event highlighted the role of cultural programmes in recognising the contributions of security personnel who serve in demanding conditions along India’s borders.
