Booking train tickets just got a bit more secure and fair. Starting today, October 1, 2025, Indian Railways will require passengers to verify their Aadhaar details when booking reserved tickets online during the first 15 minutes after the reservation window opens. This new rule, applicable on the IRCTC website and mobile app, aims to curb misuse and ensure that more genuine travelers get a fair chance during the busiest booking period.
During this critical 15-minute window, Aadhaar verification will be mandatory for both general and Tatkal ticket bookings made online. Afterward, passengers can book tickets as usual without the need for Aadhaar authentication. However, those booking at physical railway counters (known as PRS counters) will not be affected by this change—ticket sales at these counters will continue without additional ID checks.
For authorized ticketing agents, existing regulations, such as the 10-minute booking restriction, will remain unchanged. To avoid any last-minute issues, passengers are encouraged to link their Aadhaar number with their IRCTC account ahead of time. The process is straightforward: log in to your IRCTC account, navigate to ‘My Profile,’ select ‘Aadhaar Authentication,’ enter your Aadhaar number, and verify it via the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
With this initiative, Indian Railways aims to make the ticket booking process more transparent, secure, and fair for all passengers. As the new rule comes into effect, travelers planning train journeys next year should ensure their Aadhaar is linked to their IRCTC account well before October to avoid any booking difficulties.
