The Centre has, for the first time, officially released the names of six armed forces personnel who lost their lives during Operation Sindoor, paying tribute to their sacrifice more than a year after the military operation was carried out.
The six personnel include Subedar Major Pawan Kumar, Rifleman Sunil Kumar, Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar, Agniveer Murali Naik, Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh of the Indian Army and Sergeant Surendra Kumar of the Indian Air Force. Their names have now been included in the official Roll of Honour and will be engraved on the Tyag Chakra (Circle of Sacrifice) at the National War Memorial in New Delhi.
Operation Sindoor was launched in May 2025 in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam. While the operation drew nationwide attention, the identities of the personnel who laid down their lives during the mission had not been disclosed until now.
The official recognition is being seen as a long-overdue tribute to the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of the nation. By including their names at the National War Memorial, the government has ensured that their courage and commitment will be remembered alongside thousands of other fallen servicemen.
For the families of the six personnel, the announcement brings both pride and emotion. Though their loss can never be replaced, the public acknowledgement gives their loved ones a permanent place in the country’s military history.
The disclosure also highlights the sacrifices made by the armed forces in safeguarding India’s security. As their names are etched into the National War Memorial, the six heroes of Operation Sindoor will be remembered not only for their bravery on the battlefield but also for the legacy they leave behind for generations to come.
