Heavy rainfall continued to lash Arunachal Pradesh on Monday, triggering fresh landslides and flash floods that disrupted life across several districts. The biggest concern came after a major landslide blocked the Siyom River, prompting authorities to issue an alert for downstream areas in Arunachal Pradesh and neighbouring Assam.
Officials said the blockage has formed a natural dam, raising fears of sudden flooding if the trapped water breaks through the debris. District administrations have asked people living along riverbanks to stay alert and move to safer places if needed. Teams are closely watching the site and checking the stability of the landslide.
Continuous rain over the past few days has swollen rivers and damaged roads, bridges and other public infrastructure. Several villages remain cut off after landslides blocked key highways, while rescue teams work to clear debris and restore connectivity.
The death toll from rain-related incidents has also gone up, with multiple fatalities reported from landslides and flash floods across the state. Search and rescue operations are continuing in badly affected districts, and relief camps have been opened for displaced families.
A bridge collapse in one of the affected areas has added to the disruption, forcing traffic diversions and suspensions on some routes. Emergency teams, including the National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response Force, have been deployed to support rescue and relief work.
The India Meteorological Department has forecast more rain in the coming days, raising concerns that conditions could worsen. Officials have urged people to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in landslide-prone areas, and follow local advisories.
The Assam government has also been alerted about the risk of higher river discharge if the landslide dam gives way. Disaster management teams in downstream districts have been asked to remain prepared for any emergency.
