‘Vijay’ plan targets future-ready army

Roadmap targets a future-ready, technology-driven Indian Army

India’s newly appointed Army Chief, General Dhiraj Seth, has unveiled an ambitious transformation roadmap titled ‘Vijay’, outlining a comprehensive plan to modernise the Indian Army and prepare it for the evolving nature of warfare. The initiative focuses on making the force more agile, technology-driven and operationally ready to meet future security challenges.

Soon after assuming office as the 31st Chief of Army Staff, General Seth said the Army must rapidly adapt to emerging threats, including cyber warfare, artificial intelligence, drones and advanced battlefield technologies. He stressed that future conflicts would demand faster decision-making, greater coordination and enhanced technological capabilities.

The ‘Vijay’ roadmap seeks to strengthen combat effectiveness through organisational reforms, improved jointness among the armed forces and greater integration of modern technology into military operations. The plan also aims to simplify command structures, improve operational efficiency and ensure quicker deployment during emergencies.

A major focus of the initiative is the induction of indigenous defence technologies in line with the government’s push for self-reliance in defence manufacturing. General Seth highlighted the need to expand the use of home-grown equipment, surveillance systems, drones and advanced communication networks to reduce dependence on imports and enhance operational capability.

The Army Chief also underlined the importance of investing in soldiers through better training, leadership development and skill enhancement. According to him, a technologically advanced force must be supported by well-trained personnel capable of responding effectively to rapidly changing battlefield conditions.

Another key aspect of the ‘Vijay’ plan is strengthening coordination with the Indian Navy and Indian Air Force to ensure seamless joint operations. General Seth said integrated planning and execution would play a crucial role in addressing future security threats across multiple domains.
