Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra has alleged that her party office in Kolkata was targeted by BJP supporters, claiming eggs and vegetables were thrown at the premises during a protest. The incident has triggered a fresh political confrontation between the two parties, with both sides trading allegations over the episode.
Moitra shared a video of the incident on social media, alleging that a group of BJP workers gathered outside her office and hurled eggs, brinjals and other objects while raising slogans. She claimed the protesters attempted to intimidate party workers and disrupt activities at the office.
According to Moitra, the protest was politically motivated and aimed at creating unrest. She accused the BJP of encouraging “goondaism” and said such actions would not deter her or her party from carrying out their political work.
The BJP, however, rejected the allegations and questioned Moitra’s claims. Party leaders maintained that the protest was a democratic expression of public anger and denied any organised attempt to attack the TMC office. They accused the Trinamool Congress of trying to politicise the incident for electoral gain.
Police reached the spot after the situation escalated and restored order. No major injuries were reported, though the incident caused tension in the area for some time. Authorities are examining available video footage and gathering information to determine the sequence of events.
The episode comes amid heightened political tensions in West Bengal, where the ruling TMC and the opposition BJP have frequently clashed over a range of political and administrative issues. Street protests and heated exchanges between party workers have become increasingly common in the state.
