IndiGo marked its 20th anniversary with celebrations at Mysuru Airport in Karnataka, bringing its two-decade journey closer to passengers and the local community. The milestone comes as India’s largest airline looks back on 20 years of growth while expanding its network, international presence and customer-focused offerings.
The anniversary celebrations at Mysuru Airport highlighted the airline’s growing role in connecting smaller and regional cities with major aviation hubs. Mysuru Airport, operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), serves as an important gateway for tourism, business and economic activity in the region. IndiGo currently operates services from the airport, including flights connecting Mysuru with Hyderabad and Chennai.
For travellers, however, the biggest anniversary attraction is the airline’s special ‘IndiGoFree’ campaign. Launched to celebrate 20 years of operations, the offer gives customers a chance to receive one of 20,000 free domestic flight tickets, with the benefit capped at ₹10,000 per PNR.
The offer is available for eligible domestic bookings made between August 4 and August 6, 2026, through IndiGo’s direct booking channels. These include the airline’s website, mobile application and 6Eskai, its AI-powered virtual assistant.
The promotion works through a selection process. Customers making bookings during the offer period may be selected at random and contacted by email and WhatsApp. Selected customers are then asked to answer a simple question, with three attempts available. Those who answer correctly will receive a refund of their booking fare, up to ₹10,000 per PNR, within three to five business days.
The offer covers both domestic Economy Class and IndiGoStretch bookings, and applies to one-way as well as return journeys, subject to the campaign’s terms and conditions.
The anniversary campaign reflects how dramatically IndiGo has expanded since it began operations two decades ago. What started as a domestic low-cost airline has developed into one of the world’s fastest-growing carriers, with a network that now extends well beyond India.
According to the airline, IndiGo currently has a fleet of more than 430 aircraft and operates nearly 2,200 daily flights. Its network covers more than 95 domestic destinations and over 40 international destinations. The airline said it welcomed more than 123 million customers in financial year 2025-26.
That expansion has also changed the way IndiGo approaches international travel. The carrier has been adding longer-range aircraft and new international routes as part of its internationalisation strategy. In 2026, for instance, IndiGo expanded its European connectivity through services to Athens and strengthened its Istanbul operations using the Airbus A321XLR. It has also expanded codeshare arrangements to provide passengers with access to more international destinations.
The airline’s 20-year journey is therefore not only about the number of aircraft or destinations. It also reflects the rapid growth of India’s aviation market, where air travel has become increasingly accessible to passengers from tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
Mysuru is an important part of that regional connectivity story. The city is a major tourism destination, known for attractions such as the Mysuru Palace, Chamundi Hills and the annual Dasara celebrations. Better air connectivity can help tourists, business travellers and residents save travel time while also supporting hotels, local businesses and the wider tourism economy.
The airport itself is also being positioned for a larger role. The AAI describes Mysuru Airport as a domestic airport supporting tourism, regional connectivity and economic activity. Plans for airport expansion have included runway extension and additional infrastructure, which could strengthen the city’s ability to handle larger aircraft and improve connectivity over time.
For IndiGo, the anniversary comes at a time when the airline is balancing its traditional low-cost model with a broader range of products and international services. Its IndiGoStretch offering, for example, gives passengers a premium cabin option on selected routes while the airline continues to focus on affordable fares and operational efficiency.
The company has also received industry recognition. IndiGo said it was named the Best Airline in India and South Asia at the 2025 Skytrax World Airline Awards and ranked sixth among the most punctual airlines in the Asia-Pacific region in 2025 by Cirium.
As IndiGo celebrates 20 years in the sky, the Mysuru anniversary event offers a reminder that the airline’s growth is closely tied to India’s changing travel habits. From affordable domestic flights to an expanding international network, air travel has become part of everyday life for millions of Indians.
The airline is now using its 20th anniversary not simply as a moment to look back, but also as an opportunity to engage customers. With the 20,000 free-ticket IndiGoFree offer, the carrier is putting passengers at the centre of its celebrations while signalling that its next phase of growth will continue to focus on connectivity, scale and customer experience.
